MGP has been retained to develop a comprehensive strategy to guide the future development and growth of the City of Basra, Iraq and to prepare a Master Plan that identifies land uses for a planning horizon of over 25 years.  The Master Plan will be used as a framework for modernizing the City while preserving its civil and cultural identity, respecting its religious, cultural and social conditions, and ensuring the preservation of important natural environment systems and other significant features. 

The Master Plan will also provide strategies to be implemented in the near-term to deal with some of the challenging conditions experienced in Basra over the past three decades. The first phases of the Strategy and Master Plan process are complete and the team is currently preparing alternative growth scenarios, the preferred scenario of which will be brought forward for detailed examination in a later phase.
